Lois’ Handicraft Creations

Besides being a landscape designer and horticultural consultant, I am a longtime art and craft designer and maker. I grew up in a family that owned an Art and Craft Supply Store and Picture Frame Shop. I learned all kinds of crafts there, the materials for making things and the materials for fine art. I also learned to frame pictures, cut glass and how to choose mats and frames. At school I learned to sew and studied design rounding out my knowledge base. It was great! Such a creative time and so fun. I chose a different path for my career, but always relished my early background and ability to make arts and crafts. My wonderful family was so encouraging and taught me so many interesting ways to create. And just in time for Halloween some crafty items have been made!

After retiring my landscape design business, I launched this website to be an informational platform for all things landscape and gardening. I also gained more time to go back to my roots in arts and crafts. This month my daughter and I launched a new Etsy site with a fun twist. We wanted to do a Holiday shop with items that carry Halloween into Christmas- what we lovingly call “Creepy Christmas”. Some Dark humor here and a deviation away from the traditional, overly sweet sentiments of the holiday season. Don’t get me wrong, we both love all the sparkle and glitter of Christmas but, also see an opportunity to spin the garish to the darker side. Folk lore and Movies have done this for many years with Krampus, the Grinch and Nightmare before Christmas leading the parade.
